OK, but not quite sure where this books fits on the shelf
This is Book 3 in the Bay City Paranormal Investigation series but the first I have read and it is very weak on the paranormal side. Perhaps the earlier novels are better (there are references to them and they sound more meaty) but don't read this for a paranormal fix.
The real thrust of the book (and I use the word deliberatly) is around the relationship between Sam Raintre and his lover Dr Bo Broussard. Bo has the most irritating hair in book-dom since Nathaniel in the Anita Blake series. Hair on men down past their waists, plaited or otherwise, is just not appealing and nor are constant references to it. Apart from that, this is really just a book about a developing relationship between an out gay man (Sam) and his lover (Bo) who is new to it all. Thus it has a lot of developing aspects of their love life - first time Bo rims Sam, first time Bo is penetrated by Sam etc. There is also a comedy friend Dean Delapore who is bisexual and 'takes one for the team' to stop a homophobic woman from outing them, which made me cringe. The romance isn't a problem (just too slushy really), it's the fact that there just isn't a paranormal investigation; I feel cheated! 2009-01-02
