Writing for Nursing and Midwifery Students (Palgrave Study Guides)
Writing for Nursing and Midwifery Students (Palgrave Study Guides)
Julio Gimenez

I bought this book because I was struggling with writing reflective accounts in my nurse training. I found the book easy to understand and the chapters were relevant to my stage of the course. I especially needed information on elaborating on Gibbs' model of reflection and this book contained enough information for me to understand it. It also contains information on writing care plans, reflective...

The Gentle Birth Method: The Month-by-month Jeyarani Way Programme
Gowri Motha

I bought this book looking for advice on how to make the birth of my first child as healthy and an empowering experience as possible.I planned to have a home water birth. I did not follow the diet advice too closley as I found it far too restrictive however I did follow all the exercise, reflexology and hypnotherapy suggestions. This is where I give warning. I listened to the birth rehersal cd every...
  CTG Made Easy
CTG Made Easy
Susan Gauge

The CTG's in this book are often unclear, the details of the client are limited, and the focus is purely on 'the labour'. Care described in the book is often outdated, I mean when was the last time you saw presure readings taken from INSIDE the uterus!!! Not in this country; not anymore!

I bought this book to help with CTG interpretation, but to be honest you can't beat looking at the...

  Anatomy & Physiology for Midwives
Anatomy & Physiology for Midwives
Jane Coad

This book is must-have text for student midwives. It is clear and unambiguous and explains the changes that occur in pregnancy in relation to normality.

Case studies are used to illustrate and develop the reader's knowledge and it is all supported by comprehensive reference lists and suggestions for further reading.

I would suggest that this book would be useful to all midwives, not just...

The Midwife's Pocket Formulary: Commonly prescribed drugs for mother and child, drugs and breastfeeding, contra indications and side effects: Commonly ... Contra Indications and Side Effects
Claire Banister

This is an invaluable resource for any midwife or student midwife to carry around to dip in to when needed. This book assumes a certain degree of knowledge about anatomy and physiology, pregnancy, and the metabolism of drugs but all medical abreviations used are laid out in a glossary of terms at the beginning.

Drugs are grouped by type and each drug is explored in a very well laid...

Diane M. Fraser

This is an excellent book and well worth buying if you are a student midwife
Appraising Research into Childbirth: An Interactive Workbook
Appraising Research into Childbirth: An Interactive Workbook
Sara Wickham

This book is an essential part of the student kit. It effectively demystifies and dejargonises the dreaded "RESEARCH". Until I read this, I found the subject impenetrable, not helped by appalling teaching at uni. Now I could probably tackle a research critique with good understanding of the concepts involved and how to apply them. Well worth it.
An Introduction to Research for Midwives
An Introduction to Research for Midwives
Colin Rees

This is a brilliant book, especially for student nurses. I had to do an intergrated critique of a qualitative and quantitative research article, and of all the books that were recommended to me, this was my bibile. it had all the answers to my questions and was generally brilliant! would highly recommend it to anyone!
Midwife Crisis: The Calamities of a Trainee Midwife
Midwife Crisis: The Calamities of a Trainee Midwife
Hilary Cotterill

What a terrilble dissapointment this book is. The title bears no resemblance to the actual contents and therefore should no be sold as the ups and downs of a student midwife. If i wanted religous advise i would have purchased a book on that very subject. The author should be a little more selective with her titles in future to avoid readers dismay and confusion.
