Zest: Running Made Easy (Zest Magazine: Made Easy)
Zest: Running Made Easy (Zest Magazine: Made Easy)
Susie Whalley and Lisa Jackson

A straightforward, simple and motivating book; which really is great fun to read. I have never run in my life although now both my teenage daughter and I have started (after having both looked at the book). We are charting our progress in the charts provided in the book and I am having a huge amount of fun doing something that for 40 years I have avoided like the plague!

Not a great read...
  The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer
The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer
David A. Whitsett

I had never run a marathon before buying this book, I'd never even run a 10km race before and, perhaps more importantly, I hadn't done any serious running (as opposed to a jog once in a while) for 20 years.
I followed the training program in this book to the letter as the things I was reading chapter by chapter, which corresponds to the week-by-week training program in the book, seemed to make...
  Strength Training Anatomy
Strength Training Anatomy
Frederic Delavier

I have had this book for a few years (I assume it is the same issue) and as a Personal Trainer I have referred to it on many occasions. It is an excellent resource for anyone interested in weight training or the anatomical processes and muscles involved. The diagrams are superb and descriptions are very informative.
However I would just like to point out that the muscular and skeletal diagrams...
Official Body Control Pilates Manual: The Ultimate Guide to the Pilates Method - For Fitness, Health, Sport and at Work
Official Body Control Pilates Manual: The Ultimate Guide to the Pilates Method - For Fitness, Health, Sport and at Work
Lynne Robinson

Everything about this tome by the leading Pilates authorities is official, marking it out as a serious, in-depth guide to the fitness system which creates lean bodies through building muscle, tone and flexibility.

Unlike many fitness books (including yoga), there is nothing superficial, glamorous or intimidating about the visuals. Photos (from various angles) are cleverly backed up with extra diagrams...

Sports Nutrition (Complete Guide to) (Complete Guides)
Sports Nutrition (Complete Guide to) (Complete Guides)
Anita Bean

A "must-have" reference book on nutrition for all athletes,body-builders,fitness buffs,runners,cyclists....anyone who trains.
Well laid out, simple to understand, and allows you to pick-up important little nuggets of information and adapt them into your training regime.
Will be well-thumbed in ANY gym by trainers and athletes looking for that LEGAL extra edge.
The New 5 Days to a Flatter Stomach
The New 5 Days to a Flatter Stomach
Monica Grenfell

I have had this book for quite a while now and it is amazing.
It is not a diet book, but a sensible eating plan. Lets face it, we all eat too much, and we ladies tend to hold on to a lot of fluid. So....try this book, you will be amazed at the difference it makes. Hubby is so impressed with my flat tummy, and this after 3 children, that he is now having ago. Plus you can eat yummy things and it...
  The Best of Wainwright
The Best of Wainwright
Alfred Wainwright

This is an absolute must-have if you have any interest walking. Even if you have no interest in walking you can't fail to be taken in by the consistently detailed drawings and conversational prose. Each and every page contains the most beautiful pen drawn maps, views and very accurate drawings of the Lakeland fells themselves. Further, Wainwright takes the reader through each fell climb in his own...
Pilates for a Flat Stomach: Core Strength in Just 15 Minutes a Day: Perfect Abs in Just 15 Minutes a Day
Pilates for a Flat Stomach: Core Strength in Just 15 Minutes a Day: Perfect Abs in Just 15 Minutes a Day
Anna Selby

This book helps you over come the same exercises over and over again routine when working your midsection. Also the pilates is a step up from basic abs movements, it makes you focus on the area and builds strength within rather than just looks. Also recommend The Backsmart Fitness Plan By Dr.Adam Weiss, a great modifed pilates workout and great misection workout to work the whole core area with great...
  Walking for Fitness
Walking for Fitness
Nina Barough

I've read a few fitness books (Matt Roberts, Anita Bean and Running Made Easy). There are some very good books out nowadays and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed reading Walking for Fitness. It's not really true that the book is aimed purely at Power walkers as I think any fitness seeking walker would benefit from the advice here.

Of all the books I've read, this one made the most...
