I found this to be one of the best written IT books I have come across.
A potentially complex subject is covered with clarity of thought and simplicity of expression. You can tell that the authors have extensive experience not only of data warehousing, but of teaching its concepts to others.
This books covers general principles, not language specifics.
I first used this book alot (second edition) when I had to teach a course to HNC and HND students at South East Essex college in 1999. It it the main book I used to put together my notes
Generally an excellent text-book. It doesn't quite carry the clout or precision of C. J Dates book on database systems, but it is far more practical. Not only are the explanations simpler, but there are...
PHP and MySQL Web Development introduces readers (who are assumed to have little or no experience with the title subjects) to PHP and MySQL for the purpose of creating dynamic Internet sites. It teaches the same skills as introductory Active Server Pages (ASP) and ColdFusion books--technologies which address the same niche.
Authors Luke Welling and Laura Thomson's technique aims to get readers...
As someone who has developed "shop front" websites since the late 90s, but who never needed to take it a stage further until the last 18 months, I needed a fast, accessible introduction to both PHP and MySQL in order to build a dynamic, search-driven website for my company - fast.
If you know enough HTML/CSS to knock up a brochure-style site, and can plug in a bit of Javascript, get a...
so simple, each chapter really dose take 10 min! can't believe the amount time i have wasted trying hack code together from web forums and write crazy php when i could just read this book years ago!
I should point out I have not finished this book yet or sat the exam but have sat and passed 70-431 and 70-441 using the Sybex books.
The problem with this book compared to the Sybex ones is that there far fewer sample questions in this book. You get 20 sample questions per chapter in the Sybex books, and they are similar in format to the exam.
This is a fair thick volume containing a wealth of knowledge regarding SQL server. Much of the work and example are specific to MS SQL Server 2005, but where this is the case it is clearly pointed out, often with examples to achieve the same effect in previous version given. That said much of the theory (specifically in the initial chapters of the book) are more general and can be applied across all...
If you have to do any work involving postgres I cannot recommend this book highly enough!
As a 4th year software engineering student I found this book invaluable in completing my honours dissertation.
As the previous reviewer said, it is very well written and starts with the real basics through to the most complicated issues. However, each chapter is reasonably independent of the last, so it is...
I don't normally enjoy reading technical IT books, but this one was difficult to put down. It covers the whole of the Business Intellegence lifecycle using Microsoft products (namely SQL Server 2005, Inegration Services, Analysis Services and Reporting Services) to build a Kimball Dimensional model data warehouse.
The initial chapters cover the design cycle and reinforce the need to drive...
