It Just Occurred to Me...: The Reminiscences and Thoughts of Chairman Humph
It Just Occurred to Me...: The Reminiscences and Thoughts of Chairman Humph
Humphrey Lyttelton

I enjoyed this book immensely. It is very tempting to describe the book by what it is not, not autobiography, not a companion to "Sorry I haven't a clue", not about Jazz... Though I think anyone with an interest in these areas will enjoy it.
The book is quite literally a collection of rambling thoughts and reminiscences - which does not sound very appealing. But Humphs love of language and music...
  Jack Vettriano: Studio Life
Jack Vettriano: Studio Life
Jack Vettriano

I really liked this book, the pictures are great quality and being able to see Vetrianos studies was interesting. However as another reviewer said you don't actually get to see or read much about how the artist works other than some brief talk of music and inspiration, even with these small flaws it's still a book worth reading and one I come back to often for inspiration myself.
Seven Days in the Art World
Seven Days in the Art World
Sarah Thornton

This book is brilliantly written and full of insights into the many cogs of the art world machine and who lubricates them. Judging by her qualifications, Sarah Tornton was designed to write this book. I look forward to looking at her next project. My only minor criticism of this book is that the pace of the writing slows a bit towards the very end.
Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopedia Volume III: 3
Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopedia Volume III: 3
Danzig Baldaev

This is truly one of those life changing books. It is surreal, vulgar, explicit and tender in equal measure. I have an interest in tattooing but my wife does not and she was as taken by the Alice in Wonderland otherness of this book as I was. Everything you have never nor will ever need to know about the Russian criminal underground and it's bizarrely profane tattoo culture.

God's Architect: Pugin and the Building of Romantic Britain
God's Architect: Pugin and the Building of Romantic Britain
Rosemary Hill

One of the best biographies i have ever read. Beautifully written and fascinating even for someone like me who had little previous interest in either architecture or the nineteenth century.

  The Line of Beauty
The Line of Beauty
Alan Hollinghurst

This book is obviously a great literary achievement, must be as it won the Booker prize. Although I found this very well written from a purely literary viewpoint I just could not get into the story and just found it boring! I almost feel guilty admitting this as it seems that the majority of reviewers consider it brilliant. I however struggled to keep reading and it took me so long to do so, for me...
