This is a great book if like me you are interested in art but have a short attention span! The entries are very informative but concise and the whole breadth of art movements is covered. My only suggestion would be an updated version with more contemporary artists such as Anthony Gormley and Damien Hirst.
I bought this book for my husband who is a comic fan. As soon as he opened it I knew he loved it. I was very impressed with the colours, information and pictures. Its going to take him months to get through it but its one of the best presents i have ever got him and highly recommend it. I spent a long time trying to decide on the best book and this is it!
This book was made especially for students from the Open University. Its content is therefore emphasizing on learning. Sometimes it could be going straight to the point instead of going around it.
As a beginner to acrylic paints this book is ideal for me as it describes well the different techniques that can be employed. The many examples of completed paintings are also a great source of inspiration.
Kandinsky considered art closely paralleled music in its development and argues his theory in a series of short,but readable essays.He also includes an interesting chapter on personal abstract expressionism,from which he derives the title to this unabridged enlightening book .This gives further insight into the mind of perhaps the most 'intriguing' artist of the 20th century.
Thoroughly welcome addition to my library. I can't recommend it highly enough. Clear, concise, comprehensive and unpretentious: everything a portrait or figure artist needs to know about facial expressions. I bought a copy from amazon a few months ago and find myself referring to it time and again to liven up the expressions in my paintings. Adaptable to most styles, I would think, from cartoon...
