this is a great book, so much useful information in there. in my opinion theres already enough good reviews to convince one to buy it, so theres not really much to add.
although its important to know, this doesn't tell you practical skills, 'how-to's like roofing, plumbing etc. its more about prices of materials verses labour, explains the ins and outs of employing an architect to design for...
Got this to help with my self build project, and has been a great one stop book for rules of thumb etc. I would recommend this to any one thinking about self build or even renovations.
This book is brilliantly written and full of insights into the many cogs of the art world machine and who lubricates them. Judging by her qualifications, Sarah Tornton was designed to write this book. I look forward to looking at her next project. My only minor criticism of this book is that the pace of the writing slows a bit towards the very end.
A magnificent book, which is indeed current to within the last year, including buildings such as `The birds nest' used in the Chinese Olympics and Toronto's ROM, but not their recently updated AGO.
The buildings are described well in the text along with Architectural designs and copious images of the building from internal and external sources.
This book is fab, it has a very broad contents from classical to modern day which appears in easy to find sections. Lots of graphic drawings easy to trace off. Although does not focus on soft furnishings, is a god send.A Good investment.
